Scottie Johnson

South Bay Academy Manager

Scottie Johnson started working in emergency medicine in 2004 as an EMT in Contra Costa County. During that first year of working as an EMT, fell in love with medicine and wanting to help people. "To be able to walk into a situation that could possibly be someone's worst moments and hopefully make them a bit better is incredibly rewarding.” Scottie decided to further their knowledge and become a paramedic. Initially, working in San Francisco then working in Alameda County until 2016. “I felt a need to change from working in the field to the clinic setting.” Still enjoying patient care and medicine, Scottie started working for Planned Parenthood in Santa Cruz where they currently reside. During their time working at the clinic started teaching American Heart Association classes then started teaching EMT courses. “As an instructor I have the honor of shaping the future of EMS. I push my students hard, because I know at some point, they could respond to someone whom they care about.” Scottie enjoys living next to the beach with their spouse and two dogs and surrounds themselves with the people they love.
