       Minimum Levels of Qualification

  • No Medical Experience Required: No prior medical experience is necessary to enroll in our program.

  • Age Requirement: 17 and older for enrollment in the EMT Course, as there is no minimum age required for National Certification. However, it's important to note that upon completion of the EMT course and passing the national exam, to obtain a CA EMT certification in California, applicants must be 18 years old as per regulations set by the California State EMS Office.

  • English Language Proficiency: Applicants must possess a high school level mastery of the English language in reading and writing. (No other language services will be offered at this time)

  • BLS CPR Certification: Prior to the course start date, students must possess a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate from either the American Heart Association or the Red Cross.

  • Criminal Background Check: After completing the course, all EMT Certification applicants must undergo a criminal history background check. The fingerprinting process is carried out through the California Department of Justice and submitted to the local County EMS agency. For additional information, click here. â€‹â€‹

        Basic Life Support Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (BLS CPR)

Bay Area Training Academy offers limited numbers of CPR certification courses.  Additionally, Bay Area Training Academy partners with Safety Training Seminars to provide  CPR courses. This class will focus on the management of patients who exhibit signs of Cardiac and Stroke symptoms. This course will prepare the professional responder to recognize, appropriately treat symptoms of a heart attack, stroke or foreign body airway obstruction and take action. Upon successful completion of the skills based and written test an American Heart Association* CPR Card will be issued. This course covers adult, infant and child CPR.

       Admission Documents​

Upon course enrollment, you will promptly receive an email, typically within one to two business days, containing vital instructions for the next steps. This email will encompass essential documents, such as the enrollment agreement, immunization form, and other necessary paperwork.

Before the course commences, you are required to furnish the following documents:

  1. A valid ID copy

  2. A copy of your high school diploma, GED equivalent, college transcript, or proof of current year high school completion

  3. A copy of your BLS CPR certificate

Furthermore, there are additional documents that need to be completed. Upon registration, you will receive these documents via Adobe email for your review and signature.

        5-Week vs 8-Week EMT Course

5-Week Program: Immerse Yourself in Our Accelerated 5-Week Course, featuring a minimum of 32 hours of class sessions per week. To excel in the program, students should allocate an additional 30 to 40 hours each week for independent study and assessments outside of class.

8-Week Program: Embark on Our 8-Week Course, with a minimum of 20 hours of class sessions per week. As you progress, plan for an estimated 20 to 30 hours of dedicated study and assessment work each week beyond the class sessions to achieve optimal results.

       Immunization for EMT Program

Bay Area Training Academy requires the following immunization records* for clinical externship and ride-alongs upon enrollment. However, we understand that individual circumstances may vary, and we accommodate students who meet the requirements for qualified medical or religious belief exemption.

Immunization Records:

  1. TB (Tuberculosis) - Negative TB test within the last 12 months

    • OR clear chest x-ray within 6 months if previously tested positive

    • OR Quantiferon within 3 months

  2. MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)

  3. Tetanus - Within the last 10 years

  4. Varicella (Chicken Pox) 

  5. Hepatitis B

For students seeking religious belief exemption, the following documents must be submitted:

  • Written religious materials describing the belief or practice.

  • A written statement signed by a religious leader, attesting to the qualification for the exemption.

 

For students seeking medical exemption, the following document must be submitted:

  • A written statement signed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or other licensed medical professional practicing under the license of a physician, stating the qualification for the exemption.

       Preparing for Your EMT Course Before the Start Date

Secure Your EMT Book Promptly: The cost of your EMT book is included in the tuition fee.  Following registration, we recommend getting your hands on the EMT book as soon as possible. Call us to schedule an appointment to pick it up, ensuring you have ample time to familiarize yourself with the material.

Thoroughly Review Chapters 1 to 17: Before the course begins, it's advantageous to read through Chapters 1 to 17 of the EMT book. This early exposure will give you a head start and enable you to grasp essential concepts more effectively during the course.

Collect Your Uniform Kit: Prior to the course's start date, pick up your uniform kit using the provided voucher. Being prepared with your uniform will allow you to focus on your training from day one.

        Uniform and Accessories

Included in the EMT Academy cost, we will provide you with a pair of 511 EMS style pants and a Navy Polo Shirt through a designated uniform store. These essential clothing items are specifically chosen to ensure your comfort and professionalism throughout the course.

 

However, there are a few additional items you will need to provide on your own, as they are not included in the EMT Academy cost:

  • EMS Style Black Tactical Boots: Sturdy and supportive black tactical boots are a necessity for practical training sessions. Please ensure you have a suitable pair before the course begins.

  • Black Belt: A black belt is required to complement your uniform and maintain a polished appearance during training.

  • Wristwatch with Second Hand or Digital Counter: A wristwatch with an easily accessible second hand or digital counter is indispensable for accurately measuring vital signs and timing medical procedures.

  • Device for Accessing Online Material: You will need a laptop, tablet, iPad, or any device capable of accessing online material during class sessions. This will enable you to make the most of our comprehensive educational resources.
