Minimum Levels of Qualification

No previous medical experience is necessary.

Applicant must be at least 17 years of age.

There is no minimum age required for National Certification. However, California State EMS Offic requires applicants to be 18 years old to qualify to obtain a CA EMT certification.

Applicants must posses a high school level mastery of the English language in reading and writing. (No other language services will be offered at this time)

Prior to the start day of the course, student must have a valid Basic Life Support Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate consistent with American Heart Association or Red Cross. See below.

Following the completion of the course, all applicants for EMT Certification must submit fingerprints for a criminal history background check with the California Department of Justice to the local County EMS agency. For more information click here.
Basic Life Support Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (BLS CPR)
(BLS) Basic Life Support CPR: This class will focus on the management of patients who exhibit signs of Cardiac and Stroke symptoms. This course will prepare the professional responder to recognize, appropriately treat symptoms of a heart attack, stroke or foreign body airway obstruction and take action. Upon successful completion of the skills based and written test an American Heart Association* CPR Card will be issued. This course covers adult, infant and child CPR.
Admission Documents
Once you sign up for a course, you will receive an email within one to two business days with instructions for next steps. The email will include the enrollment agreement, immunization form, and other needed documents.
Prior to the start of your course, you must provide:

A copy of high school diploma or GED equivalent or college transcript or proof of completing highschool in the current year.

Pay-Over-Time Solutions
1. Automatic Recurring Payments (Payment Plans, No fee or Interest Rate) –Automatic recurring schedules gives students the flexibility to pay over time without any interest or fees. Students interested in this option will be required to sign an agreement. If interested in creating a payment plan for the remaining, please call us at least 2 weeks prior to the start date of the course or earlier, to set up reoccurring payments. Payment plans consist of either weekly or bi-weekly payments from the time of agreement through and paid in full by mid-course. The first scheduled payment must be paid 5 days prior to the start of the course.
2. Financing – Bay Area Training Academy contracts with a third tuition financing company for financing options up to 6 months. Students will be required to fill out a credit application form for eligibility check. Once approved, there will be a 2% to 5% interest rate depending on credit history. If interested in financing plan for the remaining, please call us at least 2 weeks prior to the start date of the course or earlier, to apply for financing.

Immunization for EMT Program
Bay Area Training Academy requires below immunization records for clinical externship and ride alongs upon enrollment. Accommodations may be made for students who meet the requirements for qualified medical or religious belief exemption.

Documents to be submitted for religious belief exemption:

Written religious materials describing the belief or practice; and

Written statement signed by a religious leader stating the qualification for the exemption.
Documents to be submitted for medical exemption:

Written statement signed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or other licensed medical professional practicing under the license of a physician, stating the qualification for the exemption.
Suggestions Prior to the start of EMT Course...
